POLICE DEPARTMENT ADOPTS MISUNDERSTOOD RESCUE DOG
The Walnut Cove Police Department recently adopted “Sammy,” a two year old Boxer mix, from Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network. Sammy will be used to assist the police department in its day-to-day activities to protect local citizens. Sammy spent the first year of his life bouncing from home to home because his owners could not handle him. Finally, his surrendering owner realized after he was dumped on him by a friend that Sammy needed more than he could give him. Therefore, he sought out the assistance of Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network to help him rehome Sammy. Sammy’s foster mom saw a dog who needed professional help in order to be adoptable and sought additional testing for him with trainer Adam Witherspoon at Shiloh K-9. Sammy was evaluated and passed police dog training. Red Dog Farm and Shiloh K-9 decided that the best job for Sammy would be to assist a local police department and to give back to the community that gave him a second chance at life. The Walnut Cove Police Department, Shiloh K-9, and Red Dog Farm Animal Rescue Network have high hopes for Sammy in his new role as a canine officer in our community.
